The Broadcast Connectivity Kit, Professional edition is a powerful development platform targeted at engineers working to meet the rapidly growing demand for 3D TV broadcast and other high definition video applications. With the Spartan^®-6 FPGA based Broadcast Processing Engine IP core, broadcast system designers are able to build full systems for driving the high-speed transmission and real-time processing of video in a full range of professional broadcast applications including cameras, switchers, routers, encoders, monitors and cinema projectors. The low-cost Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) implementation of Triple-rate SDI (SD, HD, 3G) and other interfaces along with real-time video processing gives designers the ability to stay focused on product differentiation throughout the design cycle and into production in the face of constantly evolving standards and demands on performance.

At the heart of the Broadcast Connectivity Kit is a Xilinx Spartan-6 FPGA, a low-cost, low-power programmable logic device that designers can use to simulate video algorithms in silicon during the development phase and then move into production without having to worry about coding video interface infrastructure. Spartan-6 FPGAs deliver 30% lower power and 15% faster performance than competing FPGAs to support emerging technologies such as locally dimmed LED and super-high resolution 4K2K (Quad HD), which are driving up the bandwidth requirements for next-generation displays.

The BCK Professional kit includes the TB-6S-LX150T-IMG2 base board, built around the Spartan-6 FPGA. This base board comes equipped with:

• 3 x 1Gbit DDR3 SDRAM
• 128 Mbit SPI Flash configuration ROM
• 3 FPGA Mezzanine Card (FMC) connectors (1 x VITA-57 high pin count, 2 x low pin count)
• 4 x 4 LVDS crosspoint switch
• Multiple clock sources
• Push button switches, DIP switches, pin headers, and LEDs
• USB port for connection to a PC.
